Charity Art Exhibition and Art Workshops in aid if the Shrewsbury Ark

31 March @ 10:00 am - 13 April @ 4:00 pm

£15

The Shrewsbury Ark is a day centre in the heart of Shrewsubury dedicated to helping homeless and vulnerable people in our community to turn their lives around. The Ark statistics from the period 1st of July 2022- 29th of June 2023 state that the total number of visits made by people during this period were 10,112 and 39 people on average come through the doors each day to use the Ark’s services. Emily Bell the chair of the trustees said: “As an independent charity we rely entirely on donations and fundraising to ensure that individuals facing homelessness, receive the help they need to rebuild their lives.“

Louise Southan and Ben Wiseman are two Shropshire artists selling and exhibiting locally. They are hoping to raise funds for the Ark by putting on a charity art exhibition at the Bear Steps Gallery, St Alkmonds square SY1 1UJ Shrewsbury from Easter Sunday March the 31st – Saturday the 13th of April.

The Gallery is open every day from 10-4pm

In addition Louise and Ben are putting on a selection of canapés and drinks on Easter Monday and art workshops on Saturday the 6th of April.

Louise said: ‘ The pandemic and the cost of living crisis has shown how easy it is to become homeless. It is not a lifestyle choice. A relationship break up, loss of a job perhaps compounded with health problems it can happen to anyone. This issue is something we care passionately about and we very much hope that people will support us in this venture whilst coming along to enjoy some art and maybe participate in something creative at the same time“.

The workshops cost £15.00 with art all materials provided and are suitable for people aged over the age of 16. No art experience is necessary and the workshops run between 10-12 noon: Paint the Shropshire hills in Watercolour’ and 2-4pm: Paint Expressive Flowers in mixed media’

Participants are limited to a group of ten and each person will be able to take home a piece of artwork they have created with the help of expert tuition guiding them through each step.
