From Sunday the 13th of April until Saturday the 26th of April, local artists Louise Southan and Ben Wiseman will present an exhibition at the upstairs and link gallery at the Bear Steps Medieval Hall in Shrewsbury town centre Shropshire.
Louise and Ben are two friends and creatives from Shropshire who are inspired by the world around them and artistic movements such as expressionism and impressionism. They have worked together for the last four years and this is their fifth joint exhibition. They produce work in oil, acrylic, coloured pencil and mixed media.
Louise said: “We are looking forward to staging the exhibition and I hope visitors will enjoy our selection of art. We very much like meeting and chatting to people when they come to view our artwork. Comments and feedback is always welcomed.”
She added: “art has been my life and passion, I enjoy the immediacy of watercolour, but also enjoy working in acrylic and oil paints. I have been an artist for over twenty-five years; teaching adult students locally, creating my own artwork and taking commissions. I was brought up on a farm so the beautiful Shropshire countryside and the changing seasons have always been a major inspiration.”
Ben said: “We have paintings to suit all budgets and we produce work in very varying sizes. Our subjects include abstracts, local landscapes, wildlife and flowers”.
He added: “I love the expression and impasto I can create with oils, but I also work in acrylic and mixed media. I am an artist; producing my own work and selling locally. The work of the expressionists has always been a big influence on my painting. I take commissions and I am also a hospitality manager. Over the last five years I have been lucky enough to be able to devote more time to my art.”
The historic Bear Steps Art Gallery and Medieval Hall is open free to the public everyday between 10-4pm and hosts a range of exhibitions throughout the year. It is the home of the Shrewsbury Civic Society which has the important job of protecting and preserving the town’s architecture. The building dates back to 1358 and this stunning 14th century building is itself not to be missed.
Louise and Ben have a range of work for sale at the exhibition and online at their website teaandcakewithart.com covering various subjects and media.
