SUMMARY:Charity Concert in aid of Lingen Davies Sunflower Appeal
DESCRIPTION:Featuring Shrewsbury Male Voice Choir and Shrewsbury Concert Band. \nThis concert is to support the Lingen Davies Sunflower Appeal and to assist in the charity bringing its target of £5million closer. The choir and band will each perform music from classical to modern genres. A super afternoon’s musical entertainment\, suitable for all ages. The time of 3.00pm also makes it a sensible time for those anxious about travelling later in the day and enabling them to be back in their own homes at a reasonable time. \nLingen Davies Cancer Support has launched its biggest appeal to date\, the Sunflower Appeal – a £5million appeal to grow cancer care across our region. This will be done through the creation of a Lingen Davies Cancer Centre in Telford’s Princess Royal Hospital in 2029. The new Lingen Davies Cancer Centre in Telford will deliver all additional services to those already running in the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and nothing will be moving from RSH to PRH. Currently 37% of patients accessing care in the Lingen Davies Cancer Centre have a TF postcode. The dedicated new facility will provide for outpatient clinics\, up to 30 chemotherapy bays\, a lung cancer centre and Urology Investigational Unit. Intended to open in 2029\, the new Cancer Centre will double the provision of chemotherapy across our region – meaning those living in or around Telford will be able to access care closer to their home. Those living elsewhere aross our county and Mid Wales will be able to access care at the Lingen Davies Centre at RSH quicker and easier. \nAdults £10\, 5-14yrs £5\, Under 5s free

SUMMARY:Connection by Clae An exhibition at Swan Hill Studios
DESCRIPTION:Gallery\, Swan Hill Studios begins its autumn creative programme with Connection\, a solo exhibition by Clae presenting a new body of non-representational and geometrically abstract work. \nAfter nearly fifteen years with portraiture at the centre of her practice\, Clae has found herself increasingly drawn towards pure shape and colour. In Connection\, recognisable subjects and traditional narratives are set aside\, allowing form\, composition and colour to assume their full presence. \nThrough the careful placement of shapes\, Clae creates a visual architecture across each work. Geometric and gestural forms meet\, overlap and fragment\, establishing relationships between rhythm and stillness\, harmony and contrast\, balance and tension. \nRather than presenting the viewer with a prescribed meaning\, each work offers an invitation to look and respond. Without a fixed narrative or recognisable subject matter\, the work allows us to bring our own memories\, associations and emotional responses to the encounter. Meaning is not delivered but gradually discovered. \nAlthough geometric abstraction can sometimes suggest precision\, distance or emotional restraint\, Clae’s work proposes something quieter and more intimate. What remains when representation is removed is not an absence\, but a space for connection between colour\, form\, artwork and viewer. \nIn Clae’s words: \n“I am pulled increasingly to the relationships between shapes; from gesture to geometry\, fragmentation to balance\, surfacing tension and articulating a new visual language.” \nAbout the Artist \nBorn in Nottinghamshire in 1968\, Clae\, formerly known as Clae Eastgate\, studied at Birmingham School of Art before relocating to London in the early 1990s. An early engagement with sculpture developed into a sustained commitment to life drawing and painting\, through which she established a largely self-taught and instinctive visual language. \nSince establishing her portrait practice in 2012\, Clae has moved from private commissions towards research-led projects\, often developed in dialogue with fellow artists and cultural institutions. These bodies of work frequently foreground women of creative significance\, positioning portraiture as a form of cultural record. Several of her portraits are now held in the permanent collections of British public galleries and institutions. \nMore recently\, Clae’s attention has turned towards non-representation\, material exploration and formal experimentation. Through a process of stripping back\, she explores the changing relationships between rhythm and stillness\, balance and harmony\, creating work that moves between observation\, abstraction\, memory and presence.
